Orkut is a social networking website that is owned and operated by Google, founded by Orkut Buyukkokten. The service is designed to help connect friends. The website is named after its creator, Google employee Orkut Buyukkokten. Orkut was one of the most visited websites in India and Brazil. Originally hosted in California, Google announced that Orkut would be fully managed and operated in Brazil in August 2008, by Google Brazil, in the city of Belo Horizonte. On June 30, 2014, Google announced it will be closing Orkut on September 30, 2014. No new accounts can be created now. Users can download their profiles archive's by Google Takeout.

"these days YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off over the orkut's place, Because of these communities has outpaced Orkut's growth, they have decided to shut down orkut completely. "It has been a great 10 years for orkut, and some are still actively using the service. Hope people will find other online groups instead. Golgher said Google will shut down Orkut on September 30, with the next three months serving as time for the community to "manage the transition." People can export their profile data, community posts and photos using Google Takeout (available until September 2016).
