Man drags back 4-foot shark into ocean
fisherman dragging the spinner shark into the water picture by Stephanie Byrdic |
TORONTO: The 4-foot spinner shark was hooked by a fisherman, according to Stephanie Byrdic of Myrtle Beach. Byrdic and her sister usually go to North Litchfield beach every friday, but this beach trip is one to pin it up, I pulled my phone out to record the moment. she added
''A guy was fishing," the guy reeled it in and had to unhook it, but he wasn't able to stick his hand inside the shark's mouth, so he clipped the line, Byrdic recalled.
The shark fell around as soon as it was released from the line, before the fisherman dragged it by its tail into the waters.
Ripley's Aquarium expert, Tim Handsel says this looks like it was a Spinner Shark and is too common in Carolina coast line. Handsel said these sharks are not dangerous, they go for fish.He says however the way the man handled the fish was very risky because no matter the type of sharks, they are very flexible. he adds the shark could have swung around and bit the man out for Self Defense. Handsel says people need not panic, but to realize that sharks are following their food source and if you see a school of fish you should be cautious a predator could be following them.Handsel is happy knowing the shark was released back.
Byrdic said once the Spinner shark was returned to the ocean people were hesitant to swim again."It took few moments for people to start swimming again"
